Malawi er et flott
land i
syd-øst
Afrika. Menneskene i Malawi er kjent for å være spesielt vennlige og
gjestfrie. Befolkningen er fattig og mange barn er foreldreløse, men
fordi Malawi har vært et fredelig land, blir problemene her ofte
oversett til fordel for andre land hvor konflikter skaper stor
oppmerksomhet.

Malawi is a
beautiful country in South-East Africa.The people are well known to be
very
friendly and hospitable. Malawi has avoided many problems that haunt
the African continent. The country is therefore often left in the dark
while places of war, drought
or ethnic conflicts receive the main part of attention.

Malawi grenser til Tanzania, Zambia og Mosambik, og har rundt 16
millioner innbyggere. Nesten 90 prosent av
befolkningen lever av landbruk, og det dyrkes i hovedsak mais,
bønner, ris, tobakk og peanøtter.
Malawi har hatt flerpartidemokrati
siden 1994. Lavt utdannelsenivå, byråkrati, og mangel på
vedlikehold er imidlertid en utfordring. Malawis økonomi er svært avhengig av
eksport av landbruksvarer. Dette
gjør landet særlig sårbart for dårlige handelsbetingelser og tørke.

Malawi is bordering to Tanzania, Zambia
and Mocambique and has 16 mill inhabitants. Almost 90 percent of the
population is living from agriculture, and the main crops are maize,
beans, rice, tobacco and peanuts.
Malawi
has multiparti-democracy since 1994. Low level of education,
bureaucracy and lack of maintenance is however a challenge. The economy
is highly dependant on agricultural exports, and the country is
vulnerable for poor trade conditions and droughts.

Flott plass
Selv om folk i Malawi har mange og store problemer, så er smilet aldri
langt borte. Man ordner seg med det lite man har, og naturen er
fruktbar i store deler av landet. Befolkningen er fredelig og meget
vennligsinnet, og Malawi har derfor fått tilnavnet "The Warm Heart of
Africa".

Nice place
Even if the Malawi nation has many and large problems, the smile is
never far away. People manage with what is available, and the nature is
fertile in large parts of the country. The population is pieceful and
very friendly, and Malawi is called "The warm heart of Africa".

Forventet
levetid i Malawi er i følge
WHO 57 år. Det skyldes i hovedsak forskjellige sykdommer,
spredning av HIV/AIDS, mangelfullt kosthold og begrenset tilgang på
medisinsk behandling.
Barnedødeligheten er også høy. Det er en million foreldreløse barn i
Malawi. Mange mistet foreldrene på grunn av HIV/AIDS, men malaria,
forskjellige febersykdommer og infeksjoner har tatt nesten like mange
liv.

Life expectancy 57 years
The life expectancy in Malawi is 57 years. This is mainly caused by
different diseases, the impact of HIV/AIDS, poor diet conditions and
limited access to medical treatment. The child mortality is also high.
There is one million orphans in Malawi. Many of those lost
their parents due to HIV/AIDS, but malaria, different fevers and
infections have
caused almost as many deaths.
